Selana is the Doric form of the word selene, meaning moon
It began with the desire to create a home out of a house
It began with the will to create a sanctuary out of four walls and a roof
It began with the feeling that the built world of the house can harmonize with the natural world
Selana Ways is a small, family-owned business well-versed in the art of fire and wax. Our scented candles each contain a unique aspect of the fabled Greek landscape and seascape. After perfecting the recipe back in February of 2015, we finally felt ready to share the ambience our candles create with others as well. The scents we have chosen to instil in our soy wax candles are inspired by the Greek environment. Herbs and flowers, the salt and brine of the Mediterranean Sea, and the four wind gods of this land, Boreas, Notos, Zephyros, and Euros, all have lent their essences to be instilled in wax and burned as offerings within each house in need of serenity, and in want of Greek flavours. Under the light of Selana, that is, of the moon, we are able to contemplate the world which exists just behind the conscious one. Her gleam creates the necessary atmosphere to find reprieve from the blinding light of the sun. While observing the changes in the shape of the moon each month, we are able to understand and withstand that primeval need for change. We have tried to capture this glimmering light and bring it down to earth, in the vase you now hold in the palm of your hand. With this candle we hope that you too may be able to enjoy this calm strength for which Selana is known. Indeed, it was under her light and it is in her stead that we were able to create the mixture you now hold. We hope that you too enjoy this serenity.
Sophie Chazaridou
Sophie is the creator and founder of Selana. By day a shop owner and mother of three, Sophie always had a drive to turn her house into a home. She found that decorating one’s space with furniture pieces and the right lighting was not enough to shape the space around her into her own. Selana emerged from this desire to ease all senses, including that of scent. With all the stress of everyday life, Sophie and the other Selana executives were able to distill the serenity and invigorating calmness of the Greek rural landscape and seascape into fire and wax. Under the cathartic silver gleam of the waning moon, when the day has long since gone to sleep and creativity can finally be allowed to emerge, Sophie sets out to bring the calming effects of scented, candle-lit ambience to others.

Alexandra Chadolia
Alexandra is the operations executive and customer service manager of Selana. By day a shopkeeper and mother of two, Alexandra had always enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with creating something for the betterment of one’s life. At the end of each trying day she looks forward to doing her best to create something out of wax and fire that would ease the stress of others like it does for herself. Under the glimmering silver light of the full moon, when the night lights up and provides reprieve, nourishing and sweet, from the beating demands of the sun, Alexandra sets out to bring the very calmness of Selana that she enjoys to others.

Katerina Apokatanidis
Katerina is the content creator of Selana. A student of Archaeology day and night, Katerina always felt that the calming effects of the Greek natural landscape and seascape would ease any and all stress-related fatigue. When the struggles of her studies become overwhelming, she always turns to the ambience the scents of Greece create to ease the exhaustion of the mind and invigorate the soul. Under the inspiring silver hue of the waxing moon, when the night overflows with promises of growth and the shadows soften revealing their secrets, Katerina sets out to decode these secrets in the language of fire and wax so that others may also feel inspired.

Mia Apokatanidis
Mia is the social media manager of Selana. A student of Linguistics day and night, Mia always found that creating the right ambience and the right mood is all one needs to elevate their living space. As the everyday grind inevitably takes its toll, she finds herself turning to the plethora of scents provided by the mythical (and mundane) world so that she may create a space that is both warm and welcoming and provides a safe haven for the recharging of one’s energy. Adapting her creativity to any and all hours, be it when the sun is shining brightly or the moon is turning all kinds of moody, Mia sets out to promote the scents of Selana so that other people may benefit from them.
