And the reason we chose the Moon Goddess as our patroness
The word Selana means moon in Greek. It is spelled here in the Doric dialect, which is why it may seem as an odd spelling at first. Indeed, the word is more commonly used in its Ionic dialectical form of ‘selene’.
The reason we chose the Doric wordform of this closest to earth orb in our sky is because the Moon Goddess seems to have been worshipped by the Doric people long after the other Greek tribes focused upon other gods in their pantheon in antiquity. Additionally, the reason we chose the moon as representative of our scented candles is mainly due to the fact that our production process takes place during the night.
This happens due to a variety of reasons, most important of which is because only the night can provide a sort of reprieve from the demands of the day. This has been our experience; that when the sun sets and we are all allowed to return to our homes, having paid our dues for the day, it is then that we may tap into our creativity, necessarily supressed when the sun is shining bright.
Under the blanket of the primordial goddess Nyx, that is of Night, and guided by the many mysterious inhabitants she possesses, most famously that of the Moon Goddess herself, we have found a nook of time in which to unleash our creativity. And although the inhabitants of the realm of Nyx are numerous, like the Oneiroi (that is, the Dream Gods), Hypnos (that is, Sleep personified) and of course the Erotes (the gods of love and passion), we found that the silver light of the moon, in whatever shape it took as the months crept by, was the element that helped us focus on the task at hand: that is, bringing our creativity to life.
Under Selana’s supervision we learned through trial and error how best to imitate her silvery hue and through the use of wax and wicks to bring her light into our homes and make it last through the night. She guided us through perfecting our candle making recipe and with her help we discovered the scents which work best with each other, and those which do not.
After countless attempts and overcoming all those inevitable obstacles that rise in your path when you set out to create something out of nothing and then perfect it, we are now finally ready to share our work with all of you. In fact, we secretly believe that our candles are blessed by Selana herself, since our scents are soothing yet potent and our soy wax may be used for optimal duration.
This means that our products will succeed in infusing your space with your very own signature, adding that little something extra necessary for transforming your home into an extension of yourselves, and they will also last for a long time, since you will not have to burn them for more than an hour or two each time, depending on how strong you wish the aroma to be in your space.
